There’s more to aromatherapy than meets the eye,
or nose. In this article we explore the metaphysical aspects of aromatherapy that can be simply applied in our everyday lives.
Aromatherapy is now a well known Wholistic therapy that many people turn to to assist with their
physical and emotional health and wellbeing. But there is another, little known side to aromatherapy-the spiritual, magickal
and mystical side. Our ancestors were well aware of these aspects, and many religions and cultures were shaped by the early
knowledge the ancients had in regards to aromatic and medicinal plants. Now we all have the freedom to re-access this once
forbidden information and apply it in our lives without fear of being burned at the stake as a witch! Here is a selection
of some well known essential oils and a whole new way to using them.
Basil
Basil
is a symbol of fertility and in Italy, basil is known as the symbol for love because the leaves resemble hearts. The Basil deva (plant spirit) is a protector of family, and burning basil oil will help to exorcise negativity
from the home and bring good luck and happiness to a new home. Basil creates a sympathetic vibration and is often worn to
assist in clashes with other people. Wear basil oil to protect you in crowds. The scent of basil causes sympathy between two
people and is used to mend lovers' quarrels. Basil is used also to ensure fidelity between lovers. Basil stimulates the conscious
mind to invoke happiness. Use it in a ritual bath to bring new love in, or to free yourself of an old love. Opens the heart
meridian-clears energy movement between the heart and the hands.
Used
in spells for; money, love attraction, banishing, exorcising and for protection.
Basil oil is also associated with clairvoyance, commanding, divination, honesty and psychic development.
Black Pepper
Black
Pepper engenders courage and provides positive anger for change. Banishes malevolence, protects against the evil eye and dispels evil, black pepper is an oil of exorcism
and protection. Black pepper is especially helpful in confronting fears, as black pepper provides
strength, protection and stamina. Use black pepper
to add spice to a relationship that has grown stale. Black Pepper is a catalyzer, enhancing the synergy
of blends and increasing the potency of other oils. It is also of assistance in opening the electrical energy flow throughout
whole body. Black Pepper is an oil that stimulates the conscious thought processes.
Cypress
Cypress
is commonly used for blessing, consecration and protection. Cypress stimulates healing, and helps to ease the pain of losses
of all kinds by providing comfort and solace. Cypress engenders inner strength and quietude, and is useful in times of transition.
The cypress tree represents the sacred flame of life, the unchangeable, eternal essence. Cypress symbolises long life, and
the immortality of the soul, and cypress is a sign of incorruptibility and purity of the soul. Cypress assists in the sublimation
of the sex force; assisting those seeking to transmute the instinctual sex energy into a spiritual energy to experience eternal
life. Cypress purifies the energy field, raises energy levels and creates feelings of security by grounding. Cypress acts
as a tonic to the spirit, and removes mental and psychic blocks. Cypress is
also associated with; Happiness; Harmony; Peace; Inspiration; Binding; Wisdom; Releasing; Defense and Longevity.
Cedarwood
Cedarwood
is a purifier, and is beneficial for healing on both the physical and spiritual levels. Cedarwood assists in the elimination
of blockages and toxins, whether they stem in the physical, mental or the emotional. Cedarwood cleanses and purifies the body,
skin and the environment from all negativity and stagnation and is a useful oil for overcoming bad habits. Cedarwood enhances clarity of mind and enhances spirituality by assisting
one to reconnect to their spiritual awareness-the scent is said to enhance psychic
powers. Cedarwood harmonizes and stabilises unbalanced energies and encourages energy flow. Use cedarwood to draw Earth energy and for grounding. Cedarwood symbolises and encourages

has long been associated with longevity, courage and strength. Fennel wards off negative energies by its purifying properties.
Fennel provides protection to the human energy field and fortifies healthy boundaries. For these reasons, fennel is thought
to calm fits induced from black magick cast against you and to prevent curses, negativity and possession. Fennel is also thought to be of assistance in influencing others to trust your words. Fennel
symbolizes; victory, heroism, flattery, strength, praiseworthiness, fierceness
in battle and success. Fennel is also associated with; Healing, vitality and virility. Use fennel
oil for protection spells of all kinds and for purification.
Frankincense

releases powerful vibrations for protection, purification and exorcism. Frankincense increases the potency of other oils and
is an oil related to sun energy. Frankincense

Jasmine
is the sacred flower of the Hindu god of love-Kama, and has been used throughout history as a ingredient for love potions
or spells to capture, sustain or rekindle the affection of a loved one. Jasmine is the symbolic bond of love and passion that
is used to unite a bridal couple for eternity. Symbolic of the moon and of the mysteries of the night, Jasmine is said to
induce prophetic dreams if burned in the bedroom. Jasmine is also associated

Juniper

and marriage. Calming to angry and irritable children, which is magick in itself. Orange harmonizes the body, mind and spirit.
Orange is also associated with; love, good fortune, divination, balance, healing, harmony, peace, money and riches, Psychic
awareness, Luck, harmony, joy and warmth.
Patchouli
Patchouli
is a reputed aphrodisiac of magickal powers, and has been an ingredient in love potions and magick charms throughout the ages to attract people and to promote
lust, sex and love. Patchouli stimulates and balances the yin or feminine aspects and awakens fertility.
Patchouli promotes physical stamina and increases physical energy and sexual potency. Patchouli is said to attract prosperity, so sprinkle some patchouli
oil around green candles in money rituals. Dispels negativity and promotes good dreams. Energetically patchouli increases
energy/attention in the sensory levels and the outer fields, causing the spiritual self to drop into the physical body. Patchouli

Peppermint

prevents a downward spiral in consciousness, so it is especially useful following a trauma or when dark emotions set in. Use

to the body and balancing personal will. Rose offers psychic protection by raising the energy field frequency. Rose symbolizes
divine or mystical love and attracts love, promotes confidence and is healing to the heart. Use rose oil in love spells of
all kinds. Rose activates yin or feminine energies and awakens sensuality. Rose is also associated with; Protection of secrets;
repulsion of evil, beauty, psychic powers, divination through dreams, healing, luck, protection, domestic peace and happiness.
Rosemary
Rosemary oil, when burned, emits powerful cleansing and purifying vibrations,
and is used to rid a place of negativity and for protection against evil spirits, especially prior to performing magic.

Sage
Sage’s
transformative properties work upon negative energies that are somehow clouding the aura, changing these negative influences
to enable them to act for the benefit of the person, place or object whose aura is being cleansed. Sage’s scent permeates
the environment and creates a barrier of protection-a psychic shield, while neutralizing the existing negativity or misfortune.
Sage drives away disturbances and tensions, and lifts the spirits above the
mundane. Sage enhances the connection to higher self, spirit world, other dimensions and can be used
to assist with contacting one’s own spiritual guides or animal guides. Sage is considered the herb of immortality and
longevity and can be used to ensure a long life.

ecstasy. Sandalwood has one of the highest vibrations of any oil that resonates with aspects of ourselves, attracting the
highest spiritual vibrations, opening the highest spiritual centres and aligning the chakras to enhance spiritual awareness
and allowing healing energies to flow. Sandalwood enhances receptivity and assists in contact with guardian angels, Devic beings and the higher self. Sandalwood oil placed on
the forehead aids in focusing the mind and helps the dream state and promotes visions.

Vetiver

Vetiver is a useful oil for releasing fears, for getting what you want in life or for breaking a run of bad luck. Vetiver
